Pre-Medical Requirements

The following courses are considered standard pre-medical requirements for admission (exceptions will be considered on an individual basis):

  • INORGANIC CHEMISTRY - one (1) academic year (including labs)
  • ORGANIC CHEMISTRY - one (1) academic year (including labs)
  • GENERAL BIOLOGY - one (1) academic year (including labs)
  • MATHEMATICS - completion of at least one (1) college level course
  • ENGLISH - coursework sufficient to demonstrate verbal and written proficiency

Post Graduate Students that do not meet the pre-medical requirements may complete their chemistry and science prerequisites through the ISMS Pre-Medical Program. The pre-medical program at ISMS is designed for students who would like to acquire the basic knowledge necessary to enter into the M.D. (Doctor of Medicine) program.

The pre-medical program consists of two semesters (one academic year) of science coursework. Students may enter the pre-medical program during any of the academic semesters (September, January or May).

ISMS accepts students from many fields of study and recognizes that a broad general education is important to developing a comprehensive compassionate and caring approach to medicine. Therefore, the Medical University encourages students to complete courses in sciences, arts, philosophy, literature and humanities.

Since English is the language of instruction at ISMS, it is important that applicants be prepared academically to pursue the curriculum and also be able to communicate well. Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).

ISMS encourages applications from individuals with advanced degrees (graduate or doctoral) in the basic science areas. Each applicant will be evaluated on an individual basis.
