 Faculty Career Opportunities

ISMS offers school staff positions in the very well developed, multicultural and multi-lingual Panama City. The campus is equipped with computer-enhanced teaching equipment and state-of-the-art audiovisual aids. Compensation is commensurate with U.S. medical schools.

Available positions

Positions are available for the trimester commencing January 2011.

The Faculty must develop curriculums and courses in accordance with ISMS guidelines. Faculty members are placed on the various committees,according with faculty interest and experience.

Positions are available in the following medical fields:

  • Physiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Neurology science
  • Microbiology
  • Immunology
  • Histology
  • Genetics
  • Embryology
  • Anatomy

Full time teaching positions are available for senior faculty members, at the Professor or Associate Professor levels, to those with extensive teaching experience in a U.S., Canadian, European, or Latin American medical school.

For academics who have completed postdoctoral training and who are interested in full-time teaching positions, junior faculty positions are available at the Assistant Professor level.

Positions are offered individually, on a one to three year renewable contract basis.

Position requirements

  • Doctoral degree in the field (e.g. PhD, M.D or equivalent).
  • Teaching experience at a U.S., Canadian, European or Latin American Medical School.
  • Strong commitment to teaching.
  • Dynamic and fresh approaches to teaching are welcome.
  • Candidates must be willing to teach in Panama and provide a proven record of professional excellence in the field.

Compensation

  • Both salaries and positions are based on experience.
  • Salaries are comparable to U.S. prevailing rates.
  • All payments are made in U.S. dollars.

Curriculum

  • Structured according to the U.S. system of medical education, but with a strong multicultural medical influence.
  • All basic sciences programs are taught in Panama.
  • Basic sciences teaching in all subjects is conducted throughout the year in three, 16-week trimesters starting in January, May and September.
  • New students are admitted at the beginning of each trimester and the courses are repeated each trimester.
  • Small Class size per trimester.
  • Students must pass USMLE I prior to entering their clinical clerkships.
